Austyn Taylor
b.1984, Rochester, NY, USA
Ceramics MFA Alfred University 2016
Born in New York, Austyn Taylor began sculpting after discovering a hidden stockpile of clay while teaching art at a charter school in Denver, Colorado. She returned to New York for an MFA in Ceramics at Alfred University, followed by eight years as a resident artist across the USA, China, Denmark, Mexico, and Lebanon.
Her practice developed through sustained periods of working in different cultural contexts, with residencies shaping an ongoing focus on animal form and hand-built ceramic processes. This led to her current body of work- an evolving animal anthology.
Taylor currently works from her studio in Sonoma, California.
